Embryos and Fetuses of Animals
What happens in secret often produce a mysterious aura, arouse curiosity and fascination. Nascent life is such an event. It takes place in hidden spaces - womb, pouch, egg. The elephant already has its mini trunk, the cat looks like having a happy sleep, and the embryo of the opossum is a little harmless ghost. They all appear innocent, fragile, touching and somehow from a different world. We have embarked on a journey into this cosmos.
These intensive photographic insights were only possible in historical collections of natural history museums, as well as in veterinary institutes. The specimens often spent decades and even longer in dark archives. We wanted to take the existence of these collections as a chance bringing the individuals to light. The conserved bodies are in a kind of floating condition and in fact in their prenatal element: liquid. They are not alive, but they have not lost their magic and charisma at all.
